You and your guide will explore Spitalfields, a district with a fascinating history and a vibrant, contemporary scene. One minute, you will be admiring some of London’s finest 18th-century houses and the next, you will plunge into bustling streets with boutique shops.

Being on the edge of the City, the area has always attracted immigrant communities, who have added to its rich cultural diversity. The area is home to some of London’s fabulous “street art”. Please check out our Street Art Tour. London's Jewish history is a fascinating tale from rags to riches.

A neighbourhood of immigrants

Around two million Jews left Europe between 1881 and 1914, fleeing persecution and economic hardship. By 1910, there were 125,000 Jews in less than two square miles around Whitechapel and Spitalfields, often living in conditions of extreme overcrowding. Many immigrants maintained cultural traditions brought from Eastern Europe. Let your guide tell the story of surviving and ultimately thriving in London’s famous East End.

The area in the late 20th and early 21st century has welcomed Bangladeshi, Polish and Middle-Eastern peoples: visitors to London are surprised by the quality and variety of food options. London is now famous for food, and food from everywhere you can possibly imagine.

End the tour with a walk through Borough Market, London’s famous foody neighbourhood - if you are a real foody, you may prefer our VIP Food Tour. This is the perfect market to grab a bite to eat, enjoy top-quality tea or coffee and soak up the lively atmosphere.
