The interior is distinguished by specially commissioned artwork that helps to create a serene and relaxed atmosphere.

The American Bar is characterized by memorabilia and photographs of celebrity customers that line the walls. This bar takes you back to the typical 1920s and 1930s American bar tradition set in European cities like London and Paris. Benoit Provost is the in-house mixologist who has proudly created a menu of 12 speciality cocktails. Who doesn't want to sip a cocktail or enjoy a light lunch al fresco in the peaceful private courtyard?

A brief history of the Stafford Hotel
The Stafford Hotel celebrated its centenary in 2012 and has had a long and fascinating history.

From the 17th to the 19th century, the building was originally built as private residences. Number 17 was owned by Lord and Lady Lyttelton, the daughter of the then Earl Spencer. They went into service as a nanny to Queen Victoria's children.

In the following years, the house had several owners, from becoming the Richmond Club Chambers to the St. James's Palace Hotel. In 1912 the hotel was extended to include number 16; this meant that the Stafford Hotel was born.

During the Second World War, the hotel served as a club for American and Canadian officers stationed overseas and sought refuge in the wine cellar. Leading to creating of the Better' Ole Club where guests became members whose services to the Stafford London were recognized, like HRH the Prince of Wales. Also, during this time, the wine cellars were used as air-raid shelters. Guests can see an authentic collection of war items in a little museum at the far end of the wine cellars.

The Carriage House, originally built as stables to accommodate the nobility's thoroughbreds, was transformed in the late '90s to a luxury lodging. Today the Stafford has a loyal following from US visitors, who love the staff, location and style.
