History
The Rubens at the Palace Hotel was part of the land and stabling of an earlier house in that area, owned by John Sheffield, the Earl of Mulgrave, in 1703. By 1752, houses and shops had begun to pop up on present-day Buckingham Palace Road.

By 1841, a druggist named Thomas Murley owned the present hotel's position; his firm stayed here until the mid-1880s. Afterwards, the property passed onto Polwarth, who utilised it as a law stationer's shop. By 1912, the Hotel Rubens became popular with people attending royal functions at Buckingham Palace. During WW II, the Free State Polish Army acquired the building and used it as their headquarters.

In 1953, Grand Metropolitan Hotels obtained the hotel, but it changed ownership by the end of the 1970s when Sarova Hotels bought it. Flash forward to 1997, when the Red Carnation Hotel Collection claimed ownership and turned it into the award-winning property we know today. In 2017 the Rubens at the Palace underwent a multi-million-pound refurbishment adding numerous dining venues like The English Grill, The Curry Room and the New York Bar. In 2018, The hotel received their AA five-star hotel recognition.
