Touring Guide
Our Classic Tour of Scotland itinerary can be customised to match your requirements. The Airds Hotel is an ideal base from which to explore the Highlands. Within easy reach are the towns of Oban and Fort William. Given its surroundings' splendour, it's little wonder that Oban attracts such affection from locals and visitors alike. Situated within Northern Argyll, an area famed for its breath-taking mountain scenery and rich clan and religious history, Oban sits in a beautiful bay in the Firth of Lorn. It is known as the 'Gateway to the Isles.'

The harbour enjoys the natural protection offered by the island of Kerrera. It has long been a busy port and is Caledonian MacBraynes most active ferry terminal serving the many islands of the inner and outer Hebrides.

Just a few miles north of the Airds Hotel lies the town of Fort William. With its breath-taking location on Loch Linnhe's shore and the snow-capped Ben Nevis rising behind, it is a town with a fascinating, turbulent, and bloody history. It is named after William of Orange, who built a fort to suppress the Highland clans. The fort was built in 1654, and a settlement became established around it. Today Fort William is the second-largest settlement in the Highlands and a popular visitor centre.

Glencoe, famed as much for its truly spectacular scenery as for its savage history, lies just to the south of Fort William. It is a superb hill walking area and home to a magnificent selection of wildlife and birds.

Exploring some of the many nearby castles and a tour of the Island of Lismore are also popular activities. Wildlife Boat Trips are available along with horse riding or cycling. For those feeling energetic, climbing is another option.
