History
Greywalls was built in 1901 for Alfred Lyttelton after he commissioned a renowned architect named Edwin Lutyens to design a home next to the Muirfield Golf Course. Originally the house was called High Walls, and its design was Lutyens’ Arts and Crafts style; he was also responsible for the garden layout.

In 1905 Evelyn Forbes and her husband William Dodge James purchased the house from Lyttelton and commissioned Lutyens to add three lodges to the property. Later in 1911, Sir Robert Lorimer built an extension for the James family. At the house, the Jameses entertained Edward VIII. After WW I, the house was leased, and in 1924 Sir James Horlick bought it.

During WW II, the house was used as a hospital, and Horlick left the property to his daughter and son-in-law, Colonel John Weaver. They transformed the house into a hotel in 1948. Over the years, the owners added several extensions, and the property is to this day managed by the Weaver family.
