Stowe

Discover Stowe, where sublime landscape gardening on a massive scale comes to life on your Private Tour of England. The National Trust owns the Park, and its creator Lord Cobham used the gardens to express his beliefs about politics and morality.

Stowe Park is the most ambitious garden in Britain. The park houses three different walking paths that link back to Lord Cobham’s beliefs. The Path of Vice takes you through the garden of love, where the temples focus on stories of seductive women and excessive partying. If you’re looking for an area representing heaven on earth, take the Path of Virtue with temples showing good values. The Temple of British Worthies shows great moments from Britain’s history. Discover the political aspirations of Lord Cobham; the Path of Liberty is for you. It is the longest and most challenging of the walks, which demonstrates politics is never easy.

The original garden was first laid out around 1680, and over the years, Greek and Gothic monuments were added. The remarkable landscaper Lancelot “Capability” Brown worked here and learned a great deal and was inspired. The Dukes of Buckingham owned the property from 1593 to 1921. Until the sizeable Palladian house was converted into an elite boys’ school and ownership transferred to the Stowe House Preservation Trust.

Visit Stowe Park on a Private Day Tour from London. Stay in the Cotswolds nearby and tour Bletchley Park, where you can discover the secrets of World War II. Take the opportunity to go to Oxford, England’s oldest university city. Or learn about Sir Winston Churchill at Blenheim Palace.
