Glastonbury Abbey and Tor, King Arthur, and historic Wells

Explore the romantic ruins of Glastonbury Abbey. The monks of the Abbey promoted it as the burial place of King Arthur, the legendary warrior. The 'Tor' the mysterious conical-shaped hill seems to be reasons behind many of the stories. See lesser-known areas of interest; The City of Wells is a beautiful and small with a bishops palace, a preserved medieval street, and an incredible cathedral.

  • The legends of King Arthur
  • Climb the Tor for meditation
  • Two spiritual places to discover

Tour the spiritual West Country

Glastonbury Abbey once one of the wealthiest monasteries in England. Tales told to enhance the interest in the remote Abbey church, including stories of a visit by Joseph of Arimathea who left the holy grail. In any event, the Tor and springs nearby have turned Glastonbury into a centre of spirituality.

Climb the Tor and admire the views across the Somerset levels below; many find the experience truly extraordinary.

Then it's on to Wells, the smallest cathedral city in England and medieval time capsule, with a magnificent gothic cathedral. In such surroundings, it is no wonder that even the local wildlife adheres to this majestic environment. The swans that live on the moat of the Bishops Palace ring a bell when they require feeding twice daily. Very dignified, indeed. The Bishops Palace grounds has beautiful gardens. They are the ideal spot to relax before seeing the delicately carved stone interior of the cathedral.

Tour Cheddar Gorge, a spectacular limestone ravine cut through the Mendip Hills. In 1903, discoveries unearthed a skeleton 9,000 years old.
