The Samling Hotel

A beautiful place to stay in the English Lake District National Park

The Samling Hotel

The Samling Hotel is the best place to stay in the English Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017. The year 2017 was a good one for the hotel as the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star after Head Chef Nick Edgar only nine months before came from Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons - another one of our favourite hotels.

The Samling is The Jewel in the heart of England's most beautiful region, a cosy retreat from the unpredictable weather of the Lake District, a very wet area, a generator of rainbows and cloudscapes that have attracted artists and inspired great poetry. The reason for being here is the weather; it is fascinating to watch it change.

The Samling is a place to get away from it all and be surrounded by 900 sq miles of sublime beauty. From the hotel gates, you can tour any one of the 16 large lakes and Tarns (small lakes) in the region and hike any one of the 150 high peaks. We can arrange expert mountain guides and include adventure activities, both our suggested Classic Tour of England and England Adventure Tour include the Lake Districts.

Restaurants
The glass-walled contemporary dining room sits 240 feet above lake Windermere, facing south and west, affording panoramic views for miles along the lake – it is a spectacular and unique backdrop for diners. The landscapes inspire Executive Head Chef Robby Jenks' seasonal cuisine, using the best local and national produce; indulge all the senses.

If you are a wine lover, you are in luck; the hotel's wine collection is exceptional and award-winning, currently one of the world's Top 500 according to The World of Fine Wines magazine, and hold an AA Notable Wine List Award. We call upon the skills of a Consultant Master Sommelier, and why not have us create bespoke Wine Tasting, including rare and premium wines as the hotel has the Coravin System.

Unusually for a country-based hotel, The Reverie is as sophisticated as the dining and wine list. The discerning world traveller will be well-served by our thoughtfully curated collection of international spirits, selecting the most notable from each country from the most highly regarded makers. Get yourself a bespoke spirit infusion or cocktail tailor-made to any flavour, according to your preferences.

Facilities
The Samling Hotel has magnificent ornamental gardens with water features. Marvel at the listed Georgian stone Summer House or go glamping in the Windermere area. This Wilderness Adventure offers the best of the hotel’s hospitality and service, mixed with being surrounded by the great outdoors.

Touring Guide
The lakes are known as the Adventure Capital of the UK, as well as historically having a world-class cultural heritage, being the home of Romanticism with William Wordsworth, and one of the most internationally famous children's authors, Beatrix Potter. We can source any activity – both outdoor adventure and cultural – that you may wish to experience.

Enjoy a private tour of Wordsworth's Heritage Centre, to Winter Mountaineering up England's highest mountain - or the UK's favourite walk as voted for via the BBC. Mountaineering began in the Lakes, and while only 900 miles square, it does not lack for dare-devil activities.

Luckily, your Driver-Guide, our office staff and local Adventure Guides will be at your disposal during your Lake District National Park experience.
