A brief history of the Milestone Hotel
Kensington House was built and first occupied in 1689 by Foot Onslow, a Commissioner of Excise under William III. From 1830 the building was used as a private asylum before being replaced by a second mansion, constructed by "Baron" Albert Grant, the founder of Leicester Square.

In the 1880s, the two houses there are today replaced Grant's mansion. In 1922 the former home started being used as a hotel, and in 1925 it was joined by number two Kensington Court. In August of 1986, a fire severely damaged The Milestone; afterwards, another hotel group bought the hotel.

In the mid-'90s, the Russian Ambassador to London was the occupant of the building. In October of 1998, The Milestone Hotel became a part of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection. By September 1999, the hotel was restored to its original glory, and at present, it ranks as one of the best hotels in the world. In 2020 the Milestone hotel was awarded an esteemed Forbes Five Star.
