Luxury Guesthouses - B&B's

Enjoy the hospitality from the property owners

Guesthouses

Guesthouses and B&B’s have come a long way in the past 20 years. High-end bedding, luxurious surroundings, and refined touches are now much more common. You get a massive bang for your buck with this category of accommodation. This is a tiny sample of our Bed and Breakfast collection; it will give you an idea of what to expect when booking this category.

We visit every Guesthouse and B&B we use, inspect all rooms and speak with the owners. We need to establish an excellent long term relationship with the owners; they work hand-in-hand with our Driver-Guides to make sure you are comfortable. You ould have an allergy to feather pillows or prefer a specific type of milk, between the B&B owner and your Driver-Guide it will get sorted.

This type of accommodation is not for everyone. You will not find spas, restaurants or gyms. What you will discover is comfortable surroundings with a friendly owner who will make you a cup of tea or coffee upon arrival and tell you if desired the history of the house and local stories.

The history of Bed and Breakfast

Bed and breakfasts’ have been part of British culture for centuries, evolving from the days of the Coaching Inns. Road improvements and the rise of the Spa Towns (such as Bath and Cheltenham Spa) in the 18th century produced the demand for vacation accommodation. The Victorians invented the idea of a holiday for all, the introduction of a two day weekend and bank holidays fuelled the growth of seaside resorts such as Brighton. Car ownership increased options available to holidaymakers, and B&B’s thrived until cheap package holidays to Spain saw the Brits travelling abroad en-mass for the first time, the B&B struggled in this competitive environment.

Into a era

The growth of Luxury and Boutique B&B’s located near gastro pubs helped make the staycation more appealing. The little B&B was back, and now international visitors have discovered the virtues of staying in a well-appointed home with owners that care about their guests. The breakfasts are always the best, cooked individually using local ingredients and you cannot beat taking a stroll to the local pub for dinner and a few drinks – you will meet people and have fun.
