Portobello Road Market
Tour London's diverse street market trading antiques, bric-a-brac, food and fashion
Discover Portobello Road Market
Portobello Road is probably one of the best-known street markets with a history that goes back to over 150 years. In the 19th century, the market mainly sold fresh food. The antiques and wares dealers arrived in the late 1940s and 1950s. We can incorporate stops in any one of London's markets on your private tour of London.
Portobello Road has several markets. The main attraction is the antique market, the largest antique market in the UK with more than 1,000 sellers. There are six different categories: you have the antique market, the arcades, the bric-a-brac, the fashion and clothing market, the market for fruit and vegetables, and the food market.
- Opening times: 8 am to 6 pm summer, 9 am to 5 pm winter.
- Monday to Wednesday: Fruit and veg, clothing stalls and Bric-a-Brac.
- Thursday the market closes at 1 pm.
- Friday has additional antiques, food, accessories, furniture and collectables.
- Saturday has ALL stalls plus an antique arcade and farmers market (FM 9 am to 2 pm).
- Sunday, there is no street market, but a few shops are open.
You may consider our VIP Private Gastro Tour of London's Markets. At the end of Portobello Road, you have Golborne Road. This road is the heart of London's largest Moroccan and Portuguese communities. There are plenty of things to explore on the street, including multinational shops and cafes.
You can also find the Trellick Tower on this road, which opened in 1972. It is a famous iconic landmark designed in the Brutalist style by architect Ernő Goldfinger. Also, a fun fact is that the market was the setting for the movie "Nothing Hill".
